Old Film, Old Trip

I just got around to developing a roll of film that I had from five years ago,
when I took a trip up to San Francisco right after graduating high school. This was my favorite of the prints that I got back - it makes me look forward to shooting more once I arrive in the city.

Seriously…

I can't believe I witnessed this last night...aaaaaaaaah!:

Not my film job - just courtesy of Youtube. I was a little further back...

MKOxRH: Straight West Coastin’

I sometimes feel that working in the concert "biz" has made me slightly jaded when it comes to live music. It's true, it's true. But there are still moments when I get completely stoked-out-of-my-mind when certain bands (see above) come to town. This upcoming week is one of those times, and I swear I will smile all day and night, and dream big when I'm asleep. I'm about to start my California mini-tour, headed to four of the five dates Radiohead has scheduled to end their North American tour...and boy am I pumped!

I even got word from my buddy Justin, that he scored a few tickets to the West Coast premiere of Jonny Greenwood's "Popcorn Superhet Receiver" in San Francisco at the Herbst Theatre for Thursday night. What a perfect way to start my journey...ahhhh! More info on that can be found here.

Here's my itinerary. Lets hang out if you're free:

-Thursday, Aug 21: Fly into Oakland around noon, attend the Popcorn Superhet Receiver premiere at Herbst Theatre in the evening, do whatever in between.
-Friday, Aug 22: Run around the city during the day, meet up with friends who are there from out of town, head to the festival site around 4 PM to get my credentials. I hope to meet up with possible employers during this time as well (I hope I can work something out!).
-Saturday, Aug 23: Land in Ontario around noon, head to work, do the show and go home for rest.
-Sunday, Aug 24: Sleep in, then prepare for Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl.
-Monday, Aug 25: Work in the office, leave early, prepare for Night 2 at the Bowl.
-Wednesday, Aug 27: Catch Amtrak around 9 AM to San Diego and either bike or find some sort of bus to Chula Vista (anyone know which station is the best for this, or the easiest way?)...if I can't figure that I out I can drive solo, though I want to keep that as my last resort.
-Thursday, Aug 28: Depending on finances and how tired I am, I may end up in Santa Barbara for the final N. American show of the tour. We'll see...

WE AM MK aka CLUTTER

Please come, it may be one of my last shindigs before my SF departure (actually, who am I kidding - you know I'mma have a big blow out before I really bounce...but still, come anyway and see our work, plzzzz!):

Because I Can’t Blog All of the Time…

...but still do a ton of random and crazy shit that I'd like to document, I created a Twitter account! Check it out here! Oh, and add me if you have one!

MKOxSF: Last Day

It's early Sunday afternoon and I'm going to start closing out my stay here in the Bay. My time overall has been interesting; I spent the last couple of days alone, which has provided me with a lot of thinking time. Thinking time is good, and part of going on this vacation was so I could get away from everything and everyone. I didn't email from my phone much, nor did I take many calls. Each of the evenings I've been asleep no later than 1 AM, which is way earlier than usual, and has allowed me to catch up on the hours that I've been lacking. Last night I had a dream about my ex-boyfriend, friends, and where I'm currently at with things in my life and though I'm mostly content, I woke up really under the weather, feeling quite empty. I'm very much looking forward to returning to my things: my friends, my apartment, my family, my job. But, I'm sure as soon as I'm back in the routine I'll wish to be back here. It's a silly balance. I think that once I begin to understand how this city works I'll begin to feel comfortable, so it's only in time and I'll have to be patient. This trip was exactly what I needed in order to prepare myself emotionally for such a giant leap. I think it's all good.

See you soon So. Cal.

MKOxSF: Day 2 (Short Lived)

I woke up relatively early yesterday to Justin at his table prepping things for his trip to the Lazy Bear Weekend up at the Russian River. He had mentioned it to me the night before that he was heading off for the weekend and had I known that was going on a little more in advance, I might of tagged along with him. After finishing up his errands, we decided on breakfast and burritos sounded good (by this time it was already lunch time, though). So we headed down into the Castro and ended up at Zapata's; to my surprise it was pretty delicious.

After seeing Justin off, I walked around the city with my camera, but didn't shoot much. I did a lot of observing and checked out some of the local areas that might be of interest once I move here. I eventually returned to the Castro where I wandered throughout the neighborhood, occasionally stopping in touristy shops to browse things like humorous cards, and raunchy sex toys. After that lost it's appeal I sat alone in Dolores park, where I did some reading and writing, and a little bit of sketching, while I watched locals enjoy their Friday afternoon. Going to Berkeley was the next on my list, but first, I wanted to take advantage of happy hour, so I grabbed a couple of drinks.

Once I made it to Berkeley, I found my friend Eric right as I exited the downtown station. We had dinner plans and afterward we were headed for the Oakland Art Murmur, but I ended up getting sick right after our Thai cuisine. We still made it there, but had to exit the bus early so I could throw up everything in my system. Earlier before lunch I'd taken some Valium, so I figured maybe that with the drinks got me a little nauseous, or maybe it was the burrito itself. Either way, it was no bueno, and made me cut my evening short. After the Murmur I caught the 19th St. BART back to San Francisco and I think that ride back to Justin's had to have been one of the worst experiences I've had in a long time. I felt queezy the whole way, dry heaving in a slow daze and tried my hardest not to look like something was wrong while standing amongst the crowd in the packed train car. I was also a little nervous, since I didn't have change when buying a ticket and skipped out on paying so I could get home as soon as possible.

I eventually made it back safely, took a shower and crashed out around 11 PM, sleeping on and off throughout the night, nauseous and in a ball.
